How to Choose the Right Puncture-Resistant Safety Gloves for Safe Animal Handling

In many industries, protecting your hands is paramount. Whether you’re handling non-venomous reptiles, engaging in falconry, or working with sharp objects, the right puncture-resistant safety gloves can make all the difference.

One such option is our Leather/Elk hide puncture-resistant safety gloves from Animal Equipment by Stoney. These animal-handling puncture-resistant safety gloves are exclusive to our company and are made in the U.S.A.

Let’s explore why our puncture-resistant safety gloves are the safest and most reliable choice available.

High-Quality Material and Design

Our safety gloves are crafted from the finest materials, guaranteeing durability and reliability in even the toughest environments. They’re available in sizes 8, 9, 10, and 12, offering a perfect fit for every hand. Whether you’re wrangling with reptiles or tackling tough tasks, our gloves have you covered.

Our Puncture-Resistant Safety Gloves Feature Elk Hide with Felt Inside and Velcro Closures

Our Protective Safety Gloves feature a carefully selected 5.5 oz Elk Hide with a plush felt lining inside, ensuring both durability and comfort. The incorporation of Elk hide, known for its denser nature, allows us to create a thinner layer, providing unparalleled dexterity without compromising on safety.

The cuff, crafted from suede and lined, enhances the gloves’ puncture resistance, extending from the wrist to the forearm for maximum coverage. The addition of a Velcro closure ensures a secure fit, while the Velcro strap on the back of the extended cuff prevents the gloves from being easily pulled off, a common occurrence during animal handling. It’s a lifesaver, especially when you’re engaged in a round of “catch me if you can” with playful critters.

Be Smart, Stay Safe: Use Our Puncture-Resistant Safety Gloves

While we cannot guarantee these animal-handling safety gloves are puncture-proof, they have been designed and tested with non-venomous reptiles, razor-sharp teeth, and claws in mind. This ensures they provide the highest level of protection possible for your hands.

Our protective gloves are ideal for a wide range of applications, including handling non-venomous reptiles, falconry, and any other activity where hand protection is crucial. The velcro closures resist reptile entry at the forearm, and the cuffs are lined and can be used for falconry. They also offer excellent gripping when wet, making them versatile in various conditions.

Care and Maintenance of Your Gloves

To care for Elk hide and heavy leather gloves, it’s essential to keep them clean and dry when not in use. Avoid exposing them to harsh chemicals or extreme temperatures, as this can damage the material. Regularly condition the leather to keep it supple and prevent drying and cracking. Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

When it comes to protecting your hands, our Leather/Elk hide gloves from Animal Equipment by Stoney are the top choice. Our high-quality materials, thoughtful construction, and versatility make them a reliable option for a wide range of applications.

Invest in these protective gloves today and experience the difference they can make in keeping your hands safe while handling animals.

The Standard Snake Hook by Animal Equipment by Stoney LLC

Snake hooks are essential tools for anyone working with snakes, offering a safe and effective way to handle these fascinating creatures. Animal Equipment by Stoney’s Standard Snake Hook is a top choice among professionals, renowned for its durability and functionality.

In this blog post, we delve into the world of snake hooks, we’ll explain why the Standard Snake Hook stands out among the rest.

What is the NEW Standard Snake Hook?

Snake handling requires precision, safety, and the right tools. That’s why Stoney’s enhanced the ultimate standard solution, creating the Standard Snake Hook. A tool that can become an extension of your arm. One of the reasons we offer it in 15 different lengths. Even just a 6″ can make a hook unwieldy.

Unlike other standard snake hooks, Stoney’s hook features a Titanium 1/4″ (.250) thick hook, along with a thick wall anodized inside and out the aluminum shaft, which is safer and more durable than tempered versions (GOLF SHAFTS), and rubber and Foam grips, ensuring reliability and safety in every use.

I WILL NEVER USE A GOLF SHAFT to make any hooks! They are steel with a chrome finish. To turn one into a shaft. One needs to drill a hole in the tip. Now you need to insert a hook. Most just use low-grade Stainless Steel or Aluminum. Now you just put two different metals together it causes accelerated corrosion. Also referred to as galvanic corrosion. It will rust from the inside out. So you will never know when the hook will fall out or break off. Then you are left with the chrome finish. If you scrape the chrome off the outside of the shaft you now have steel metal exposed to the air! And you will get rusting from the outside.

Key Features:

Material: The Standard Snake Hook features a thick wall clear anodized inside and out aluminum shaft, for durability and lightweight handling.

Hook: Equipped with a 1/4″ (.250 OD) titanium hook, ensuring it is very strong and reliable and lightweight.

Sizes: Available in 15 different lengths ranging from 24” to 52”, catering to numerous, along with various needs and preferences.

Grip: Sizes 30” and above come with a second foam grip, providing added comfort, safety and control during use.

Standard Snake Hook Sizes - Stoney Animal Equipment

Strength: The anodized thick-walled aluminum shaft and titanium hook make this snake hook incredibly strong, and capable of handling various snake species.

Durability: The anodized thick-walled aluminum shaft ensures longevity, even in challenging outdoor conditions.

Safety: The secondary grip on larger sizes enhances safety and control, minimizing the risk of accidents during handling. With wet or sweaty hands, on hot metal.

Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of snake-handling tasks, from outdoor adventures to a hobbyist dealing with their collection or professional snake relocation.

Grip Colors Offered for handling hooks

All of our products are crafted with the expertise and needs of the safety and protection of the animal and professional keepers in mind. A Guide to Net Suspension Rods

How to Customize Your Modular Net System

In this blog, we delve into one essential component of our offerings – the Net Suspension Rods.

Animal Equipment by Stoney is committed to delivering safe, light, strong, and versatile solutions. Our modular net system empowers customers to tailor their equipment for specific applications. In this post we explore the intricate world of nets and suspensions.

This comprehensive video guide outlines the diverse range of options available, from net suspension rod sizes to choosing the right shape and hoop sizes showcased in our demonstration video.

Polycarbonate Net Suspension Rod Sizes

Net Customization at Your Fingertips

Our Animal Equipment by Stoney nets are sewn with heavy thread designed to stretch with the net material, ensuring that the seams remain resilient. This attention to detail reflects the brand’s commitment to providing robust equipment where every component, including the stitching, plays a vital role.

We offer four distinct net suspension rod styles – Hoop, Pentagram, Ogive, and V – and ensure that each style is available in all size circumferences, without any difference in pricing for shapes of the same size and thickness of polycarbonate. Crafted from a robust Lexan polycarbonate plastic rod, our suspensions boast 16000 psi tensile strength and 19000 psi flexural strength, guaranteeing durability.

Choosing the Right Shape:

Hoop Shape: The Traditional Net

  • Advantages: Maximum opening for a given circumference, ideal for open ground/tree flight capture.
  • Disadvantages: Incompatible with corners, challenging to use in small cages.

Pentagram Shape: Best for Cages

  • Advantages: Fits into corners and block angles, covers doors of different sizes, effective in blocking charging animals.
  • Disadvantages: May snag or catch when swung parallel to the ground.

Ogive Shape: Best Multipurpose Net

  • Advantages: Covers doors of different sizes, fit into corners, facilitates easier capture of larger animals with a smaller net. The sides bulge to absorb impact force, reducing the chance of snagging.
  • Disadvantages: Less effective in corners than the Penta, not as wide an opening as the Hoop.

V Shape: Best for Delicate or Ground-Bound Animals and Multiple Captures

  • Advantages: Allows the net to be pulled off with the animal inside, enabling rapid capture of multiple animals. Tension-supported front edge prevents impact injuries, and wands move independently, conforming to surfaces. Dismantles for tight storage during transportation.
  • Disadvantages: Primates or dextrous animals can lift the tension support and crawl under, small-headed animals may scramble under the front edge, wear on the net is faster (additional hem recommended), and suspension flexibility can pose challenges in controlling animals.

Understanding Net Suspension Rod Sizes

Stoney, from Animal Equipment by Stoney LLC, introduces us to the crucial element of designing and developing nets – the polycarbonate rod sizes for net suspensions. These rods are custom-built in modular sections, offering flexibility and ease of replacement.

1/4-Inch Rod:

  • Flexibility: Very flexible, suitable for small and light animals.
  • Diameters: Available in two different circumferences.
  • Use Cases: Ideal for delicate and small animals.

3/8-Inch Rod:

  • Flexibility: More stiffness but retains flexibility.
  • Diameters: Comes in 28, 36, 45, and 56.
  • Use Cases: Suitable for a variety of animals, with 56 being ideal for delicate birds.

1/2-Inch Rod:

  • Flexibility: Moderately stiff, suitable for common applications.
  • Diameters: Available in 45, 56, 72.
  • Use Cases: Handles more weight, a common choice for various animals.

5/8-Inch Rod:

  • Flexibility: Less flexible, more stiffness.
  • Diameters: Comes in 56, 72, 90.
  • Use Cases: Offers stiffness, suitable for animals with more weight.

3/4-Inch Rod:

  • Flexibility: Very stiff.
  • Diameters: Available in 56, 72, 90.
  • Use Cases: Ideal for heavy animals, provides maximum stiffness.

Choosing the Right Rod Size

Selecting the appropriate rod size depends on factors such as the animal’s weight, the net’s weight, and the net’s depth. Stoney advises starting with the weight of the animal and then choosing the rod size accordingly.

Additionally, considerations for the shape of the net (hoop, pent, ogive) depend on whether you’re working in open areas, cage doors, or other specific scenarios.
